You are expected to attend regularly and are responsible for anything you miss!
To avoid distracting either your classmates or your professor, before each class please check that you have turned off your cellphone, watch alarm, and other noisy devices.
What to do if you miss class when a problem set is due
Nothing, no matter what the reason: The missed problem set will receive a score of 0, and that set will be one of the 20% of lowest problem set scores that are dropped when your problem set average is calculated.
If you know ahead of time you are going to be absent, then give your problem set to me at the previous class or leave in in my LGRT 1623D mailbox before the time the set is due.
What to do if you are prevented from taking an exam
See the exam make-up policy. Note that final exam make-ups cannot be given just to accommodate travel plans.
Absence for religious observance
In accordance with University regulations, if you will be absent because of religious observance, then you must notify me in writing, in advance of the absence, and at the beginning of the semester—within one full week of your enrollment in the course.
Making up work missed because of religious observance is handled the same way as in the case of other legitimate absence.
How to contact me about unexpected absence
To contact me to give prior notice of an unexpected absence from an exam or other class activity, you may:
see meat a class meeting; or
go to my office hours; or
leave a message in my mailbox in LGRT 1623D; or
phone the Mathematics and Statistics Department at 545-2762, or when there is no answer outside business hours, leave voice mail at the department number 545-4499.
If due to the nature of the emergency you yourself are unable to make contact by one of these methods, ask a friend or family member to do it for you.
I will make the final determination as to the validity of the reason for missing work, as well as how you should make up the work in accordance with the stated policy.
