Eisenberg Math 132:
About quizzes

Quizzes constitute half of the 16% instructor's portion, that is, 8% of the overall course grade.

Only the best 80% of your quiz scores count toward the quiz portion of your grade.

This is to allow for all reasons for missing quizzes, including illness, emergencies, officially excused absence from campus, absence for religious observance.

Just for showing up and seriously attempting a quiz, you get 25% credit for that quiz!

Where, when, and what kind of quizzes?

  • Quizzes may be give in lecture and/or recitation section meetings.

  • Some quizzes will be announced ahead of times; others will not be.

  • Some quizzes given at the beginning of the period will be designed to test whether you did the assigned reading from the textbook.

  • Some quizzes may be given in the form of small-group exercises, in which the group submits a single paper and all members of the group receive the same score.

  • Except for such group exercises, naturally, work on a quiz must be yours alone, and any unauthorized collaboration would be treated as cheating, for which there can be severe penalties under University policy.)

Quiz paper return

Graded quiz papers will be returned once in class.

If you are not in class when a paper is handed back, you will need to see me or Emily  in order to claim yours. Of course, you may not ask another student to pick up the paper in your absence.
