If you are having trouble opening Adobe Acrobat .pdf files in your Web browser, viewing such files on-screen, or printing such files that view OK, look here.
Problem. My browser says it doesn´t have the necessary plug-ing.
Solution. Download Reader from the Adobe Web site.
Problem. When the browser downloads a .pdf file, it opens the Acrobat Reader window, but nothing appears in it.
Solution. If you are currently using Acrobat Reader version 5 or earlier, try the latest version. (I use the full commercial product Acrobat to "distill" PostScript files into .pdf files, and I try to remember to create .pdf files that are Reader 6.0 compatible, but sometimes I forget.)
Problem. The .pdf file looks OK on-screen in Acrobat Reader, but when I print it some characters are missing entirely, or parts of large characters (such as big parentheses) are missing.
Solution. For the "Computer Modern" and "AMS Math" fonts that I use in .pdf files, this is a known problem with some non-PostScript Hewlett Packard printers; it may be a problem with other printers as well. The workaround is:
- Upgrade to the latest Acrobat Reader.
- When printing, select the Print as Image option.
