Math 131: Tutoring & help

Your own lecture instructor and discussion TA are your primary resource for help—before or after class or at their office hours.

Many Math 131 instructors and TAs are willing to render help, on a limited basis, to you even if you are not in their section.

The Mathematics and Statistics Department unfortunately does not have the resources to offer a help center for Math 131.

If you need additional help, consider the following resources:

  • Free walk-in individual and group tutoring, along with scheduled “supplemental instruction” sessions for Math 131 is available at the UMass Learning Resource Center  in W.E.B. Du Bois Library. (Even though a specific Math 131 instructor is named in the supplemental instruction schedule there, all Math 131 students may attend.)

  • For-fee tutoring can sometimes be arranged with advanced students on the Mathematics & Statistics Department’s list of approved tutors. Consult the current list at Department offices, LGRT 16th floor. This may be a good option if you can afford it and if you require extended tutoring from the same person.

  • For help with algebra skills and other pre-calculus material, you may visit the Math/Stat Pre-Calculus Help Center, LGRT 114. This room is normally open Monday–Thursday, 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.  (Check the sign on the door for the current hours.)
