Office hours: Mondays 2:30--3:30PM and Tuesdays 4:00--5:00PM in LGRT 1235H.

We will explore several approaches to geometry: constructions with straight-edge and compass, the axiomatic approach of Euclid and Hilbert, analytic geometry via linear algebra, and Klein's approach using symmetries and transformations. This will open the doors to many non-Euclidean flavors of geometry. Spherical and hyperbolic geometry will be studied in some detail.

The course text is *The four pillars of geometry* by J. Stillwell. SpringerLink.

There will be weekly homework, due at the beginning of Wednesday's class (first homework due 9/19/18). No late homework will be accepted; instead your lowest two homework scores will be dropped.

Homework setsThere will be one midterm exam and one final exam.

You are allowed one sheet of notes (letter-size, both sides) on the exams. Calculators, additional notes, and the textbook are *not* allowed on the exams. You should bring your student ID (UCard) to each exam.
