Stats 515, Statistics I, Sections 2 and 5
Fall 2017
This is the webpage for Sections 2 (MWF 12:20-1:10) and 5 (MWF 11:15-12:05), taught by Michael Sullivan. For information that is uniform throughout all sections of Stats 515, such as exam info, textbook, TA office hours, etc, please consult the
coursewide webpage
.
The instructors' 30% for Sections 2 and 5 will be based on weekly written HW, weekly online WebWork HW, and possibly several in-class quizzes.
Typically, WebWork will be due Tuesday evenings and written HW will be due Friday in class.
There may be some exceptions due to exams and holidays.
At some point later in the semester, the WebWork HW will end and the written HW will become longer.
Discussion of
homework and practice problems with fellow students is encouraged but
you must submit your own work.
For the written HW, make sure your name is on every page and
your work is stapled. The grader is not responsible for lost sheets. If you have any issues/questions with the grading, ask the grader Dongah Kim (dkim at math dot umass dot edu) by email or at their office hour. If you are not satisfied, please bring the issue to me.
Due to limited UMass resources, not all problems will be graded.
The online homework is done using
WebWork.
Starting Sept 8 you can login into your account on WebWork from
here if you
are in Section 2 and
here if you are in Section 5.
The HW can be viewed about 2 weeks before it is due.
Your user name is the part of your SPIRE username ( UMass email address appearing
before the '@
' symbol and usually your NetID).
Your default password is your 8 digit UMass SPIRE ID number. Please make sure you change your
password once you login for the first time.
This applies even if you have set up a webwork account in a previous class. That account will not transfer over.
Write-up/Print your solutions, and keep them, say in a binder,
so that you may easily reference that when you are studying for an exam.
NOTE: I will not accept late homework. One missed homework assignment is allowed. For the exceptional (documented) situation, please discuss with me.
My office hours are (tentatively) Monday 10:00-11:00, Weds 10:00-11:00, Weds 1:15-2:15, and by appointment Monday and Wednesday. I am usually off-campus on Tuesday and Thursday. I might hold extra office hours the day of the exams. Check back here closer to the date. All my office hours are in LGRT 1323G.
