S140.2B HOMEWORK and READING ASSIGNMENTS FALL 2001
Homework will be assigned each Friday and will be due in discussion section the following Thursday. It must be neat, legible, on letter size paper, and on time. Pages must be stapled. In the upper right- or left-hand corner write your name, S140.2B, Disc. #, TA's name, and HW #. (For homework format, see http://www.math.umass.edu/~joeh/s140/format1.htm..) In writing up homework, give enough detail to show how you got the answer. Discussion of homework with fellow students is permitted, but the final write-up must be your own. No credit will be given to either party for work that has been copied. All problems are from the textbook, Mendenhall, Beaver, and Beaver, A Brief Course in Business Statistics, 2nd ed., unless stated otherwise.

CURRENT READING ASSIGNMENT (9/14/01): Ch. 1 - all, Ch. 2 - all except sections 2.5 and 2.11, Ch. 3 - all except section 3.5. We will finish the material from Ch. 2 on Monday and start on Ch. 3.

Ch. 8 (all except section 8.9). We will cover Ch. 8 and then conclude the course with Ch. 13.

NOTE: The due date for HW8 is the same day as Quiz 2. It's possible that we will not cover ALL the material on HW8 before the quiz, in which case I will announce in class that the due date for some of the problems on the homework will be delayed.
